| These paintings were made to serve as background for display of associated animal sculptures at art shows. They may also be of interest for such a setting as a home decoration. Jim's great grandfather, Johan Peter Carlson, was said to be a great painter of landscapes in the dining rooms of Swedish steam ships in the 1860's. ( The method of decoration before wall paper. ) After he came to America he helped his son, Franz Julias Carlson, Jim's grandfather,with painting contracts decorating many households in Schenectady, NY. F.J.Carlson, displayed great artistic talent in many fine oil paintings he produced while building a fluorishing paint manufacturing business in the early 1900,s. It so impressed his sons and daughters that they continued to be involved in fine art. Jim's mother imparted this interest in his early years and encouraged his continued interest in painting and sculpture throughout his engineering career. |
