Jim Gartin is a 4th generation artist whose natural talent and love of animals led him to produce sculptures in the tradition of Remington, Russell and Rungius.
Retired from an engineering career with General Electric, Jim now devotes full time to a second career in art work. Years of photographing animals in he Adirondacks, Alaska and the West provides inspiration for his works. Stories of his pioneer ancestors migration to the West from Virginia, his grandfather’s catching wild horses in Oregon and his father’s experiences in the Idaho mountains provide basis for his compositions.
Although Jim holds a masters degree in engineering his only art training was as a child in the studio of his mother who was an art teacher and lecturer. He takes pride in personally producing his art from sculpting the original clay, mold making, casting, finishing and painting/patina ting. Ultimately all of Jim’s sculpture will be available in bronze.
24″ x 17″ x 10″H (50lbs Bronze)
Limited Edition 30
Each work is produced as a limited edition in both resin and bronze. When a mold is made of an original clay sculpture, Jim first casts a resin (polyurethane ) copy and hand paints it in oil paints. This is done as a study to determine how a copy in bronze may look. before casting., Some may regard the resin casting as finished pieces since the price can be less than a third that of a bronze. AS an art form [n themselves, they may be thought of as a three dimensional painting, As a study they may be sufficient for an art collector to order a bronze casting,
